BANGOR, Maine — A local man who was seen breaking into a van in the parking lot of a Main Street supermarket last week left the store carrying two stolen bouquets of flowers, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Thursday.
James Lynch, 47, was seen by an eyewitness around noon on May 21 “scoping out” cars in the Shaw’s parking lot, getting into a van, and then getting out of the van carrying something, the sergeant said.
Lynch reportedly put the item from the van in his own vehicle before going into the store. He was still inside the store shopping when Officer Jason Stuart arrived.
The owner of the van left the store and once approached by Stuart discovered he was missing a cellphone from his vehicle, Edwards said.
When Lynch left the store he was carrying the flowers, which were not paid for, Edwards said.
Lynch was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle, driving with a suspended driver’s license, violating his bail conditions and two counts of theft by unauthorized taking, Edwards said.
He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and later released.

Stealing flowers ??
If there were his dead mothers grave I’d say turn him loose.
Any other reason , the Chair.
Apparently you’d like to turn them all loose. Good news for you, Most crooks aren’t spending much time in jail anymore.
Why would you want to turn a crook loose, its horrible enough. You have commented on two stories and said to turn them both loose
He’s a thief and old enuff ta know better . Throw the Book at em . At 40-50 whatever age , you know better .
Wonder what the wife or girlfriend he was stealing the flowers for thought of him when he had to call them to bail him out? He must have forgotten someone’s birthday or anniversary and decided that he needed to make ammends and was running short on cash..and he only probably stole the phone so he could call and make sure she would be home when he brought her the flowers…LOL
He looks like a thoroughbred loser.
