SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A local man who went missing more than a week ago has been found dead but no foul play is suspected, Skowhegan police Deputy Chief Dale Lancaster said Monday.

Jeff Godin, 42, last was seen leaving Bloomfield’s Tavern at 1 a.m. Saturday, May 26, said Lancaster. He was reported missing on May 30.

“We found him in a ravine off of Bennett Avenue in Skowhegan,” said Lancaster. “We found him Saturday morning around 10:30.”

The Skowhegan Police and Fire departments, Maine State Police detectives and the Maine Warden Service assisted in the search.

Lancaster said Godin was found about seven-tenths of a mile from his home and appeared to have been headed there from the bar on May 26.

“We believe he was heading that way. We believe he passed away where we found him,” said Lancaster.

The state medical examiner’s office performed an autopsy on Monday.

“It is pending further studies and toxicology tests,” said Lancaster. “There is no indication of suspicious or foul play.”

Lancaster added that it would be three to four weeks before the medical examiner’s office would be able to release an official cause of death.

  1. Interesting. The Harvard grad student goes missing in Portland and the story is plastered all over the news. A local man from Skowhegan goes missing and we get two short news stories – no US Coast Guard, airplanes, or massive search parties. Is his life not as valuable as the Harvard student’s life?

    1. If you’re one of The Beautiful People, you can get all sorts of media attention.

    2. Excellent point!! I think that we (as a whole) should consider a way to protect these people from leaving a bar, drunk, and trying to make their way home. What happened to chivalry? What kind of friends are these people hanging out with at the bar? I would never let my friend wander out of a bar alone – ever!

  2. And not a lot of comments about his friends or the bar being responsable. Condolences to his family.
