OLD TOWN – Joan C. Hamel, 78, passed away June 2, 2012, surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 15, 1934, in Bangor, daughter of Benjamin and Charlotte (Simpson) True.
Joan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and enjoyed taking care of her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and cooking for family gatherings.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Leo Hamel of Old Town; three sons, Donald of Bradley, Bruce and wife, Deborah, and Edwin and wife, Theresa, all of Milford; daughter and husband, Gail and David LeClair of Bradley; one sister, Maxine Barnett of Eddington; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tommy Hamel of Greenbush and Sandy LeClair of Virginia; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Reginald, Robert and Richard True; and two sisters, Ellen Barnett and Barbara Philbrick.
Graveside services will be held noon Thursday, June 7, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Family and friends are invited to meet 11:45 a.m. at the Superintendent’s Lodge, State Street entrance.
