BERWICK, Maine — Two men were transported to the hospital Monday morning with injuries that were not life threatening after a cement truck collided with the SUV in which they were riding.
Police Capt. Jerry Locke said Berwick Police and Fire, Maine State Police and South Berwick Fire and Rescue responded to Route 9 near Guinea Road for a report of a two-vehicle collision.
At around 6:40 a.m., two vehicles were stopped on Route 9 in an attempt to turn onto Guinea Road. Cement-truck driver Wayne Saucier of Arundel noticed the two vehicles too late, locked his brakes and swerved into the opposite lane, striking a Chevy SUV driven by David Holmes of Berwick. The SUV went off the road and into a nearby ditch containing water.
Holmes, and his brother, Joshua Holmes, also of Berwick, were transported to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the cement truck was uninjured in the collision.
According to Locke, it is believed weather did not play a role in the incident and charges may be pending in the accident.
The accident remains under investigation. Both lanes of the roadway were closed for 10 minutes following the accident.

    1. This is a blurb from another article.  The road was down to one lane for three hours and closed for reconstruction for ten minutes.

  1. The cement truck driver “noticed the two vehicles too late”……in other words, he was not paying attention and/or a distracted operator which in turn was the cause of the accident…..charges should be imminent and not just “may be pending”……

    1. I wish I knew someone who has never been distracted by driving.

Thank goodness no one was seriously hurt.

      1. Sorry Bella143.
When your driving 30 tons of cement in a 24 ton truck you have no excuse to distracted.  You have a responsibility to stay alert.
And my son has broken ribs and a spine issue and for what, a distraction?

  2. BDN, thank you for letting us know that the road was closed for a brief period of time. I was wondering about that. I am sure you will receive more comments complaining one way or the other about your reporting. Thank you, however, for the complete story.

    1. Hey Einstein,
My name is David Holmes…The guy driving the SUV.  It was a real sight to see.  Very scary.  Thank you for the “Best to all.”  My son and I really appreciate it.
