WESLEY – Betty E. (Weisner) Hawkins, 79, went to be with the Lord, June 9, 2012. She was born May 11, 1933, in Cutler, to Ira and Geneva (Bagley) Beam.
She graduated from Washington Academy and worked for several years at Down East Community Hospital. Betty was a lifetime member of Order of the Eastern Star and Natural Bridge Grange. She loved visiting with family and friends, going to church, watching the birds, knitting, doing various crafts, working word puzzles and reading. She was a great cook, well known for her clam pies and dry fish dinners.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by three brothers, Leslie Bagley, Ira and Ellis Beam; two sisters, Teletha Beam and Teletha Marston; niece, Betty Bagley; and nephew, Michael Beam. She is survived by her husband, Alvah Hawkins; four children, Jacquelyn Hood and husband, Robert, of Princeton, Jocelyn Bailey and husband, Steven, of Lufkin, Texas, Dana Weisner of New Gloucester, and Melissa Weisner of Tampa, Fla.; five stepchildren, Sherry McLeod and husband, Albert, of Crawford, Alvah Hawkins and wife, Cheryl, Barbara Dennison and husband, Kevin, Paul Hawkins and wife, Donna, and Ronald Hawkins and wife, Lynn, all of Wesley; 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, many extended family members, and numerous friends.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held in August in Machias. Arrangements are in the care of Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport. Condolences and memories may be shared at
