BANGOR, Maine — Residents approved the $41,238,725 education budget for the 2012-13 school year in a local referendum Tuesday.
The budget, which was passed in a 1,604 to 661 vote, reflects a 0.34 percent decrease from the current budget. Despite the lower bottom line, taxpayers will contribute about 1.9 percent more because the school department expects to receive 5 percent less in state and federal revenue than this year.
It seems like they have more Ed Tech then teachers in the Bangor school system. In Bangor where you needed a College Degree for Department Head jobs they have done away with that way of thinking. But our taxes keep going up.
All of our ed techs have at least 90 credit hours (3 years of college). Many of them have 4 year degrees, and a large percentage even have teaching certifications. Educational technicians are a wonderful resource and offer great support in the classroom for students who would have never been mainstreamed years ago. Our taxes keep going up because the state and federal government keep paying less and less of what they are supposed to pay.

I voted for passage of the budget. I would have felt better about my vote had if the Superintendent had all of the data from the union she needed to make sound decisions on teacher health insurance.
I still think one school for the entire Bangor area for k-3 then middle school would be great. That would eliminate what 5 principals and secretaries and even more.
So you are going to throw 1,500 6-9 year olds into one school? What is this, inner city Baltimore?
Sure why not, most schools do it now. Bangor needs to do it and get rid of the principals that just set behind a desk all day and do nothing. No schools will be mentioned here
Normally the budget price would be on the ballot. Bangor is sneaky about getting their budget passed.. Never posted anywhere on any media until after the fact.. I hope this gravy train ends someday. $42,000,000.00 is a lot of money for the union zombie cultist….. I can someday see a private company bidding on running the schools and saving the city $10,000,000.00 a year.

Better it be spent on education for thousands of kids than ONE fighter jet.
Pay teachers more, lure smarter people into the profession. Sure you have some great teachers, but the smartest and brightest are going on to other better fields. You get what you pay for.
