CARIBOU, Maine — Steven Buck, who has served as Caribou’s city manager for 11 years, is resigning to become manager in Sanford.

Buck tendered his resignation during an executive session at a City Council meeting on Monday evening.

Buck said in a statement Tuesday that his decision was tough but he wanted to explore a new career opportunity.

He said that he was proud of the city and its employees.

“Caribou employees are dedicated to their service and for providing cost effective and efficient service deliveries,” he said, adding that their talent and dedication has helped him succeed.

He said that he will miss the business and personal relationships built during his years of service and hopes that these ties will remain as he moves to a new era in his career.

Buck’s resignation is effective July 12. He has accepted the position of town manager for the town of Sanford, which he anticipates starting on Aug. 6.

The City Council will meet in the near future to determine a course of action for filling the position. Buck has offered to assist with the transition.

  1. Naldo Gagnon to Cumberland County, John Michalowski to Willowbrook in Newfield and now Steve Buck to Sanford.  The County just isn’t what it used to be.  Who will be next?

      1. Comparing Roy Woods to the three gentlemen I listed is a slap in the face to each of them.  I believe it is time for you to wilt into cyber space.

  2. I can’t help but feel he stuck it to Caribou with property taxes–then split. I am moving to Connor where the taxes are 50% less and my kids will still use the Caribou school system. Caribou is currupt and headed for a major outflux of educated people.

    1. Not necessarily. This will be an opportunity for fresh blood, and finding a good fiscal conservative.

    2. You are part of the problem.  Moving outside the community to avoid paying your fair share, yet you continue to use the services provided by the community.  My response to your threat of leaving…  don’t let the door hit you on the way out.  You claim Caribou is corrupt, yet don’t site examples.  It’s easy to just repeat unsubstantiated claims, isn’t it?  Like any community there are people who agree with the Administration and there are people who don’t.  Personally I believe Mr. Buck has done an excellent job for Caribou and I wish him the best of luck with his new position.

      1. I dont mind paying my fair share–I have done it for years– my taxes went up 100%. I’m not the problem pal. Obviously, if I could proved the curruption–people would be in jail. You sir are naive and out of touch

        1. So it’s ok to repeat un-provable accusations as truth?  So much for jurisprudence… you know the theory of law, innocent until proven guilty.

  3. Dear Bracx

People living outside of  Caribou pay taxes to their own community and some of the money is used to pay for things in Caribou.  It costs a town like Conner or Woodland  $7,000.00 to $8,000.00  to send 1 kids to school for the school year in Caribou.   If  the town has a fire the towns are sent bill  or what I have been told that the have to pay each firefight a hourly rate to put the fire out.     We all pay  taxes to use things that Caribou has to offer.   Some town need less money to operate, meaning less taxes.  So…. lets get real… there are many, many reasons why people are moving out of Caribou besides  high taxes.   You want high taxes move to Washburn.
