CARIBOU and MADAWASKA – Joffre Daigle, 92, died peacefully June 15, 2012, at Maine Veterans Home, Caribou. He was born July 31, 1919, in Glendyne, Quebec, son of the late Willie and Denise (Guy) Daigle.
Joffre graduated from Assumption Prep School, Worcester, Mass., and then went on to graduate from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, Boston. He served with the Marines and Navy in World War II, and was stationed in Brunswick and the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. Joffre owned and operated Daigle’s Drugstore, Madawaska, for more than 35 years, 1946-1982. He then worked for Brooks Drugstore as a pharmacist. He was a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus and a member of American Legion Post 147, Madawaska, for more than 60 years. He was also a charter member and district governor for Lion’s Club, as well as a charter member of La Vallee Credit Union, now Acadia Credit Union. Joffre was an avid boat racer in Maine and Quebec. He enjoyed music and loved to play the piano.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Breau) Daigle of Madawaska; two sons, John and Eva Daigle of Tallahassee, Fla., and Joffre Jr. and Rita Daigle of Springvale; two daughters, Lynn and Don Michaud of Madawaska, and Parise and Bob Skoczenski of Pensacola Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Gallagher, Erina, Pierre, Andre, Guy, Eric, Brian, Alyssa and Katie; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia, and Gabriel; two sisters, Bridgette Cote of Edmundston, New Brunswick, and Rose Marie Frenette of Texas; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his stepmother, Melanie; sisters, Frances Morin and Patricia St. Jean; and brother, Joel (Daigle) Audibert.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Family and friends may offer their condolences at church 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie Funeral Home. For online condolences, please visit
