EASTON – Lillian Flewelling died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at a local hospital after a brief illness. Lillian was born March 31, 1924, in Easton, to Lynn and Louise (Cogswell) Corey.

Lillian graduated Easton High School in 1942 and married Lawrence V. Flewelling that same year. She resided at 102 Graham Road, Easton, from 1942 until 2009 when she was no longer able to remain alone. She then was welcomed into the home of her daughter, Liana and son-in-law, Paul DeMerchant, until the time of her death. Lillian’s joy and mission in life was serving others and lived her faith by the scripture, “faith without works is dead.” Her homemade quilts, carryall bags and pot holders made their way to many homes in Easton, throughout the state and beyond. She had many friends and all were welcomed into her home, where many quilting bees were held. Lillian was a devoted wife. She helped her husband on their family farm and would say she racked most every potato they sold. Riding the hay bailer, picking strawberries for sale and driving truck in the fall harvest were some of the many jobs she did. In the 1960s, she worked a few years for Vahlsing Potato Co., processing potatoes into French fries. After retiring the farm business, Lillian and her husband traveled in their Winnebago to most every state in the union, the farthest being Alaska. Lillian dearly loved her two children and would have done anything in her power for them. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and their children. Her spirits would be lifted whenever they came to visit. She was known as “Big Grammie” to the great-grandchildren. Lillian was an active member of Easton United Methodist Church and its women’s group. She prayerfully supported both even though she was not able to attend for several years.

In addition to her parents, Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence; daughter, Linda; two sisters, Joyce and Marilyn; and daughter-in-law, Josephine. She is survived by a son, Lawrence R. Flewelling; daughter, Liana DeMerchant and husband, Paul; five grandchildren, Keith Flewelling and wife, Martha, Roland and Rhonda Flewelling, Herbert DeMerchant, and Christopher and wife, Kayt DeMerchant; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Floyd and wife, Reta Flewelling; sister-in-law, Norma Kinney; and three special friends, Inez Wolverton, Jean Lamoreau and Fran O’Shaughnessy.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, at Estes Park Cemetery, Easton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Easton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 24, Easton, ME 04740 or charity of your choice. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at
