MILLINOCKET – Kenneth M. Barnett went to be with the Lord, June 20, 2012. He was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Millinocket.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eunice (Currie) Barnett; beloved son, Kenneth Barnett II; special niece, Doreen (Currie) Picard of Millinocket, who made her home with the Barnetts; and brother, Paul Barnett and wife, Shirley, of Drewmore, Pa. He had several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Wilfred; and five sisters, Edna Brooker, Philis Beaupain, Kathleen Gillette, Dorothy Brown and Patricia Johnson.

Ken served in the Army during World War II and was a recipient of several medals, including two Purple hearts. He was a well-known businessman, and owned and operated many businesses known as Kenneth M. Barnett Enterprises. He graduated from Stearns High School, class of 1941. After serving his country he continued his education at University of Maine, Orono, as a real estate broker. Later he attended St. Petersburg Junior College in Florida, receiving a degree as a real estate appraiser. He served as president of Chamber of Commerce, belonged to American Legion Donald V. Henry Post 80, Francis E. Elliot Post 4154 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus St. Martin’s of Tours Assembly 347 and other local lodges.

A visiting hour will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Millinocket Baptist Church where services will begin 11 a.m. Burial will be after at Millinocket Cemetery. The Rev. Tim Bosse and Pastor Herschel Hafford will officiate. Afterwards a luncheon will be offered at the Baptist church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462; Millinocket Baptist Church, Penobscot Avenue, Millinocket, ME 04462; or I Care Ministries, Spring Street, Millinocket, ME 04462.
