MOUNT DESERT, Maine — A local man died shortly after midnight Saturday morning after crashing his motorcycle in the village of Seal Harbor, according to police.
According to a press release from the Mount Desert Police Department, James Corbett, 36, was operating his 2007 Honda motorcycle on Route 3 when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road near the beach.
The motorcycle went off the road, striking a curb before it came to a rest.
Corbett died in the accident, according to police.
The accident remains under investigation. Mount Desert Police officers Travis Frost, Ryan Lawson and Sgt. Kevin Edgecomb are being assisted by Ellsworth police Officer Chad Wilmot, who is reconstructing the accident.
The accident is the third of several incidents involving motorcycles that have drawn the attention of police in Hancock County over the past three days. It is the only one of those that resulted in a fatality.
On Friday morning, a Lamoine man was arrested after police say they clocked him going 111 mph on his motorcycle in a 45 mph zone on Route 204 in Lamoine.
That evening, a Franklin man was arrested by Maine State Police after he was involved in an accident in Bar Harbor and then allegedly drove off on his Kawasaki motorcycle.
Brandon Brown, 24, crashed the bike on Route 3 in Trenton after police say they chased him at speeds of more than 100 mph. Brown, who did not sustain significant injuries, was arrested on multiple charges including operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants, criminal speed, driving to endanger, eluding an officer and resisting arrest, among others.

I’ve known Jamie for about 30 years, Went to school with his sister from Kindergarten through High School, He was a good friend, always with a smile on his face, Thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.
My condolences on the loss of your friend.
RIP James Corbett.
Rest in peace Jamie, you had so much life left to be taken so soon. My heart and prayers go out to his family, such a senseless and tragic loss they have suffered.
Sincerely : Sean
Was he wearing a helmet? Just curious. I would never get on my bike without one, too many bad drivers out there who don’t look for bikes
I have an idea if he wasn’t, surely the BDN would’ve put that in the article. I dint think I’ve ever read in a BDN article, a motorcyclist passing away wearing a helmet.
It happens, all the time. But they rarely point out that even if you wear a helmet, tragic events can still occur.
Not sure if he was wearing a helmet or not, I never get on my bike without one either, I’m just not comfortable without it.
So sorry to hear about another unnecessary loss of life over the weekend…. For those of you that knew him, my heart-felt sympathies to you as well!
My thoughts are with his family and friends.
My assumption is he -was- wearing a helmet, since news stories are so quick to point out when a rider -isn’t- wearing a helmet. Even though that’s perfectly legal (and should continue to be.)
Again, my thoughts are with my fellow rider, and his family.
Jamie was one of my best friends and has been for 24 years.he was.one of the kindest people I know.I spoke with him that morning and am grateful I did.anyone that met Jamie was a friend.he lived life to the fullest.knowing him made me a better man.I will and do miss my friend dearly.my thoughts are with his family.rest in peace Corbo!!

This is very sad
My condolences to the family I didn’t know him but anyone riding a bike is a brother I’m sorry for your loss.
Got jump passed(3 cars) by someone who looked like him doing over 80 mph and he pulled into the right lane just a few car lengthes before an oncoming car with a very frightened driver. One slight miscalculation and it would have been a spectacular accident involved two cars and this biker.
Hard to tell what someone looks like at 80.you should not presume it is my dead friend who passed you!!!there are pleanty of other bikes on MDI.you are comparing a pic out of the paper that is old to some kid who passed you doing 80 MPH.How about you keep those comments to yourself.all you are doing is slandering a dead person.Must feel good to talk sh*t about someone who can’t stand for himself.
Jamie was such a great guy, everyone loved him. It still hasn’t set in, I just can’t believe he’s gone. My comforts go out to his family and friends as well as anyone who was fortunate enough to have spent time with him.
