ROCKLAND, Maine — Bail was set at $250 cash Monday for a 26-year-old Rockland woman who was arrested on a drug possession charge just two days after she had been arrested for allegedly injecting oxycodone while leaving her child outside in a wading pool.

Judge Susan Sparaco set bail Monday for Danielle R. Demeritt for a felony charge of possession of oxycodone and a lesser charge of violating a condition of release. Demeritt remained jailed Monday afternoon.

According to an affidavit filed in Rockland District Court, Rockland Police Officer Andrew Redden said the latest arrest occurred Friday night when officers arrived at her home to check to make sure she was adhering to bail conditions from her arrest Wednesday for endangering the welfare of a child. The child was placed in the custody of a family member after the Wednesday incident. Demeritt had been released on bail following her first arrest Wednesday.

Upon arrival Friday, officers searched her home and found a spoon with a white substance on it. Demeritt told officers the substance was oxycodone but that it had been left over from her prior arrest and that she had not injected drugs since her Wednesday arrest.

Details about Wednesday’s arrest were not available Monday. District Attorney Geoffrey Rushlau said he had yet to receive the police report on that case and no complaint has yet been filed by his office following that arrest. Rockland police issued a statement Friday saying the mother had been arrested for leaving her “very young child” in a wading pool while she went inside the residence to inject drugs.

The age of the child was not available Monday nor was information available about how long the child was left in the pool or how police were notified of a possible problem.

Attorney Daniel Purdy said Demeritt is a full-time student at the University of Maine System’s University College in Rockland. He said he sought the $250 cash bail because Demeritt said the drugs were left over and did not signify new drug use.

  1. Poor kid. Hope the child can grow up with someone who can care for him or her properly.

  2. How will the AG feel when the child is neglected again because of course, she is now cured of her drug abuse, right??

  3. For God’s sake, take the child away from her, she dosen’t deserve to have this child!!

  4. University College is just chocked full of druggies.  I don’t know how the lawyer could feel this tid-bit was in the best interest of his client.

  5. So….this drug abuser/child neglecter said the spoon found with the white substance from “leftover” from her last trip to court.  The judge believed her just because that’s what she claimed?  I like Judge Judy better, she can sniff out a liar!  Why not do a drug test right then?  That would tell the TRUTH!

  6. Maybe this woman needs to go into drug rehab, lifestyle reeducation and nutritional reassessment.

  7. Yes, I would say she has major problems..  I don’t think URock is going to be the solution.
