FORT FAIRFIELD – Edwina R. A. LeVasseur, 85, wife of the late Bernard P. LeVasseur, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, June 24, 2012, at her residence. She was born Oct. 18, 1926, in Fort Fairfield, daughter of Edward L. and Ethel M. (Poitras) Michaud.
Edwina attended Fort Fairfield schools and was married to Bernard P. LeVasseur, May 3, 1946. A lifelong communicant of Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield, Edwina was also a member of Daughters of Isabella, Santa Maria Circle No. 427 for many years; had been employed as a waitress at Russell’s Restaurant, Fort Fairfield, for several years; and also co-owned Sunshine Caf‚ at Plymouth Hotel, Fort Fairfield. A lifelong caregiver, Edwina assisted the elderly, enabling them to stay in their homes and was especially dedicated to caring for her brother, Raymond, after he suffered a stroke. She was a dedicated volunteer at both the Presque Isle hospital and Maine Veterans Home, Caribou. Mrs. LeVasseur was proud in knowing her hard work ethic was passed to her children and her family was the center of her universe. Edwina possessed great pride in being self-sufficient, and enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her father, Edward L. Michaud; mother, Ethel M. Michaud Sullivan; husband, Bernard LeVasseur, Nov. 30, 1968; two sons, Wayne LeVasseur, Aug. 20, 1976, and Daniel LeVasseur, Nov. 5, 2007; one grandson, Jason Paul Everett; two brothers, Wilbert and Raymond Michaud; and one sister, Dorothy Ann Davis. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Philip LeVasseur and Linda of Fort Fairfield; two daughters, Cynthia Jones and husband, Ralph, and Susan Everett, all of Fort Fairfield; one brother, Irvin Michaud of Alamogordo, N.M; eight grandchildren, Nathan Jones and wife, Tammy, of Scarborough, Mike Jones and wife, Amy, of Orono, Jason Bernard Everett Lyons and wife, Sarah, of San Antonio, Fla., Kim Jones, Kurt LeVasseur, both of Fort Fairfield, Kris LeVasseur of Portland, Herbert LeVasseur of Georgia, and Dustin LeVasseur of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two daughters-in-law, Judy LeVasseur of Westbrook and Doreen LeVasseur Campbell of Fort Fairfield; one brother-in-law, Larry Davis of LaSalle, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Maxine Morrisette of Fairfield; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and many special lifelong friends.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Raymond Morency. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Raymond Morency, celebrant. Interment will take place after the funeral Mass at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment service at Knights of Columbus Hall, Council No. 1753, 260 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
