PARKMAN – Virginia “Ginnie” (Bowman) Pelkey, 86, died unexpectedly June 25, 2012, at a Pittsfield health care facility. She was born April 23 1926, in St. Albans, daughter of Winn and Oneita (Osborne) Bowman.

She attended Newport High School. She was married to Shirley A. Pelkey, who died May 8, 1990. Ginnie was employed as a spinner at Eastland Woolen Mill, Corinna; and Guilford Industries, Newport, for many years. Ginnie loved blue grass and country western music. She enjoyed yodeling and singing to her family and friends.

She is survived by three sons, Terry W. Bowman of Exeter, Allen F. Pelkey and wife, Margaret, of Culpeper Va., and Steven C. Pelkey and wife, Debra, of Yuma, Ariz.; two daughters, Jan M. Tasker and husband, Elwyn, of Etna, and Paula A. Scott of Houlton; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and her husband, Shirley, she was predeceased by her sister, Vivian Elkins of Millinocket

Friends may call noon until the time of the funeral service 1 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport, with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating.
