BANGOR, Maine — A 17-year-old from Hampden was caught drunken driving late Monday in downtown Bangor and was arrested for operating under the influence of intoxicants, police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday.
The teenager, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, was given a field sobriety test about 11 p.m. and then taken to the police station to have his blood tested for alcohol, the sergeant said.
By law, the juvenile could be charged with OUI for having even a trace of alcohol in his bloodstream, Edwards said.
The Intoxilyzer test showed “he was over the .08 limit,” the sergeant said, referring to the state’s legal limit for those age 21 and older.
The juvenile was charged and then released to his mother, Edwards said.

Starting young! Hopefully he can learn from his mistake.
Let’s hope they take his DL till at least the age of 21.
I agree. Inexperience, along with ANY alcohol, just don’t mix well.
Between alcohol, drugs and cell phones, I just wonder how long before teens start killing with cars on the roadways. Pray it does not EVER happen!!!!
Start killing? That started along time ago along with adults who dont know any better
Too bad he couldn’t spend one night in jail in segregation. It would be an incredible lesson.
