ORONO – Charles Cox, 77, died June 23, 2012, at his home with his loving wife of 51 years at his side. He was born July 25, 1934, son of the late Harold and Patricia (Martin) Cox.
Charles attended Milford schools, graduated from Old Town High School in 1952 and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1959. After the Army Charles began training as a machinist at T.M. Chapman’s Sons Co., where he quickly developed the skills that allowed him to build a career as a machinist, owning his own shops and Axle Surgeon of Maine. Charles was an avid storyteller. Although it cannot be proven, it is suspected that he stretched the truth in a few of them just to add a little color. He also liked to bake pies and make peanut butter fudge, which his family, friends and neighbors frequently enjoyed.
He is survived by his wife, Anita (McGinn) Cox of Orono; daughter, Karen Dresser of Old Town; son, Anthony McGinn of Orono; son, Robert Cox and wife, Beverly, of Bangor; and beloved granddaughters, Laura Clark of Bangor and Amy Clark of Florence, S.C.
At his request, there will not be a funeral service. Family and friends may gather to celebrate his life 9-11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at Pine Grove Remembrance Center, 1347 Hammond St., Bangor – located across from the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that anyone wishing to make a donation may make one to Hospice of Eastern Maine, 885 Union St., Suite 220, Bangor, ME 04401.
