EAGLE LAKE, Maine — A Madawaska man was in critical condition in a Bangor hospital late Sunday after state police found him lying on Dennis Street after possibly falling from a pickup truck, police said.

Randy Willard, 24, suffered a serious head injury Saturday and was treated at Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent before being transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, state police said.

Investigators suspect that Willard fell from a pickup truck because that’s how the 911 call came in, state police Sgt. Brian Harris said.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call state police in Houlton at 532-5400. Trooper Todd Stetson is the primary investigator and he was assisted at the scene by Detective Scott Bryant and Sgt. Brian Harris.

  1. This article is completely wrong — Completely. The police didn’t find him in the road, when the officer arrived the ambulance was leaving with the man in the back. The police did NOTHING but question the people who were present and measure and assess the roadway -The man’s age is even wrong, and the reason for the 911 call is COMPLETELY incorrect. It make’s no sense that the call came in because he fell out of the back of a pick-up truck, the call came in because he was unresponsive. I’ve never been so livid with a news article. It has me questioning the validity of everything I read here.

    1. NikkiElise, I think you should call the police rather than complain about the article.  The article states they are still investigating and want information from anyone who knows what happened.

      1. I was there, for hours, with the police. It’s not a matter of what’s been reported to them because that was properly explained , its a matter of what they are reporting to the media. Hence my irritation.

        1. Or, it’s a matter of what the media misreported besides what was reported to the media. Information going from on hand to another tends to get distorted. People involved are only human.

  2. Grammar Police Here:    Just to mention, BDN:   “…state police found him laying on Dennis Street…”
He must be an amazing man – sounds as if he was laying eggs.  The correct usage is “lying in the road”.     He was lying down.    To the dog:  “Go lie down!”   BUT!! Here’s the tricky English part – Yesterday I lay down for a 20 minute nap.   Lay and lie are very often confused.
