BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 29-year-old Brunswick woman is facing charges of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs after police say she skimmed Ritalin from her child’s prescription and sold the drugs near a local school.
Amanda Holmes, 29, of 2A Robinson Ave., was charged June 28 after an investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s Portland office in conjunction with the Brunswick Police Department.
Holmes allegedly sold part of the prescription medication Ritalin, a stimulant used to treat attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, prescribed to her 8-year-old child, and MDEA agents allegedly purchased drugs from her earlier in June on Pleasant Street in Brunswick, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said Tuesday.
Agents also allegedly recovered $60 they said were profits from previous drug sales and 44 Ritalin tablets.
The charges were elevated to aggravated trafficking because the sales allegedly occurred within 1,000 feet of Maine Region 10 Technical High School on Church Road, according to Hagan.
Holmes was released from the Brunswick police station on $10,000 unsecured bail.
Information on her scheduled appearance in court was not available at press time.

Lowest of the low…….. I feel sad for the child.
So, she apparently had the means to post $10,000 bail, but shes selling pills? Smart.
“An unsecured bail doesn’t require that the money be offered up front.”

Well if you know Maine law at all, there are no “Bailbondsmen” in Maine. Usually people have to come up with 10%. But even that, thats 1000 bucks. I dont know many people that have even that much to bail somebody out. If it was me, I’d probably be stuck in Jail.
Guess you can’t get much lower then this—I hope the child is being taken care of by someone that actually knows how to care for a child I read some of this stuff and it’s unbelievable to me that some of these people can be parent material!
There is lower, much lower. I too hope the child is being take care of by a responsible adult.
Way to go, Mom. You’ve either lied through your teeth to get your child diagnosed with a disorder they don’t actually have for ulterior motives, or else your child has now possibly been robbed of the chance to receive much-needed medication, thus suffering for your poor choices. Hope it was all worth it.
(Reply to RNinMaine)Just because Ritalin is used for ADHD, it doesn’t mean the child wasn’t taking it for one of the many, many diagnoses associated with behavioral issues.
What did I say to assume I thought that? And there are only about 4 diagnoses it’s used for, not many many. Sorry, the comment I commented on is now missing.
Methylphenidate (Ritalin, MPH, MPD) is a psychostimulant drug approved for treatment of ADHD or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome and narcolepsy. It may also be prescribed for off-label use in treatment-resistant cases of lethargy, depression, and obesity .
speed.
Ritalin is an amphetamine derivative, so it is related to speed, although not exactly the same. This explains its popularity as a drug of addiction.
and we wonder why kids are growing up using drugs really??
ANd many behavioral issues I believe came into play with the childs upbringing…
So where’s her past, BDN? Why didn’t you list all the trouble she’s been in her whole life? Why didn’t DHHS take the child away from her? Or did you forget about that part? Huh, “skimmed Ritalin,” the kid you refer to probably never took a ritalin in its life.
