NAPLES, Maine — Three people were seriously injured Friday night in a head-on collision on Harrison Road that followed a less severe crash minutes earlier in Harrison.
At about 6 p.m., a car driven by Shane Faulkingham, 21, of Woburn, Mass., crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a northbound car driven by Catherine Carter, 55, of Harrison.
Police said Faulkingham had been speeding away from the scene of another wreck, that one at the intersection of Harrison Road and Cape Monday Road in Harrison.
Faulkingham, operating a Toyota Camry, drove roughly a mile away into Naples before losing control of the car and colliding with Carter’s Pontiac, police said.
Carter was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with injuries described by Cumberland County Sheriff’s officials as life-threatening.
Faulkingham and a passenger, Randall W. Parker, 20, of Woburn, were taken to Bridgton Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, police said. Faulkingham later was moved to CMMC by helicopter.
Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, which remained under investigation on Saturday.
Police said that when Faulkingham crashed, he had been speeding away from the earlier wreck during which his car collided with a truck driven by Christopher Matthews, 39, of Westbrook.
Matthews and a passenger, 38-year-old Bruce O’Donal, of Naples, suffered minor injuries in that collision.
While a deputy was responding to the first crash, he received reports of the second, more serious accident a mile down the road.
Police said each of the victims in the second crash had to be extricated from the vehicles.
The accident is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office Patrol deputies, the Detective Division and members of the Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team. The Cumberland County district attorney’s office was notified of the crash.
The Friday night accident came less than a day after a man was killed in a rollover crash on Thompson Cove Road in Naples.

So sad. Had he just stayed at the first accident and sucked up the fact that he would have gotten an OUI (if it turns out alcohol is a factor like they believe), then Ms. Carter wouldn’t be fighting for her life.
I wish her a complete and speedy recovery!
Another driver in an accident that involved alcohol and speed in just a couple of days in the Naples area, maybe it’s time for some OUI roadblocks to try to save lives and injuries.
and to thnk just a few days ago there was a story about how the state police are seeing less oui’s in traffic stops..why cuz they are too worried about uninspected vehicles, chasing down whinning complaints about fire works from people who don’t like change and re investigating domestic violence because the justice system slaps their wrists and sends them on their way…this guy will have a plee agreement get 4 days and loose his license for 90 days….i’m in hopes some one don’t loose their llife over this…speedy recovery mam..
testing?
Hmmm, interesting, no censors on a one word post. this guy needs some jail to think about his stupid decisions.
I hope they take that “kid’s” license away for a very long time. I am constantly floored by the amount of people who will get into vehicles under the influence. It almost feels like russian roulette just going out to the grocery stores these days. I’m starting to be afraid of what is coming the other direction. It’s not fair, and it needs to be clamped down on. I would gladly sit at a roadblock and wait a couple extra minutes if that’s what it’s going to take. More roadblocks, and stiffer fines. WAY stiffer fines/jail time.
I hope this poor woman makes it ok.
