BANGOR, Maine — Agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency purchased oxycodone from a Bangor man two times earlier this year and now have charged him with felony drug trafficking, according to Darrell Crandall, MDEA division commander for northern Maine.

Craig W. Demarest, 31, of Third Street first sold oxycodone to an undercover agent on Feb. 15 at the Circle K on Main Street and agents were able to make a second purchase of the diverted painkiller again from him on March 14, this time at Shaw’s grocery store on Main Street, according to Crandall.

“On July 9, 2012, agents followed Demarest from his residence at 97 Third St. in Bangor, driving his Honda SUV [and] had Bangor PD stop Demarest,” Crandall said. “He was arrested and charged with two counts of unlawful trafficking in oxycodone.”

Demarest was taken to the Penobscot County Jail. He faces up to 10 years behind bars and a fine of up to $20,000 for each of the drug trafficking charges, if convicted.

He was convicted of unlawful possession of a scheduled drug in December 2006, and ordered to pay a $500 fine, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

    1. Then can we bulldoze where you live too, because every street has bad people on it.  I used to live on third its not that bad

      1. Maybe it “Wasn’t that bad” when you lived there but all of those streets are a sad sight and that’s reality. I do have to say that drug dealers and addicts are everywhere, it doesn’t matter where you live, where you work or what ethnicity you are. That too is a sad reality.

        1. Understandable and its been about 4 months.  I lived closed to buck and it was great, no activity, cops around due to hollywood slots, but that was it

  1. Yet again, our tax dollars at work.  Most of the dirtbag dealers are selling the pills that WE PAY FOR…through Mainecare……Again, for those that use and deserve the help of Mainecare, or other help??? God Bless, but far to many are like this idiot….we buy his drugs, then he sells them at a dollar a mg, another words an 80 mg oxcy will getha $80 on the street.  They make more on our meds we buy them then most of us make in our hard earned saleries……lock hi up and take away all social servides !!!!!

    1. Maine care does not pay for oxy contin ..(except for maybe a cancer patient and then I still don’t believe it) …suboxone ,methadone yes

      1. MaineCare does indeed pay for oxycontin. Also throw in Morphine Sulfate, Hydrocodone, Methadone, Suboxone, subutex, Dilaudid…….etc,etc.  And Medicare part D also pays for these prescribed medications.  People often pay only a small co-pay of $2.50-$5 and sell their pills for a large profit. The temptation is Huge!! We need to increase drug testing on everyone who is prescribed pain medications to ensure that they are taking them properly and not selling (diverting) them. If you are prescribed narcotic pain meds, proper levels should show up in a urine test. If the test results show low levels or no pain meds in a persons system it is a red flag that they are diverting their meds. Random testing and pill counts should and could be used to decrease our diversion problem. I wish more doctors would randomly test or say to a patient “hey I’d like to see you in my office within 2 days and bring your pill bottles so we can count how many pills you have left.”  We need to enforce doctor/patient pain management contracts. In a nutshell, test often and count pills randomly.

        1. I wish more doctors would wise up and mot prescribe them. Pretty numb if they cant see abuse.

    1. Entrapment would infer that they forced him to sell the product against his will and then used it against him… Effective policing is buying from a willing dealer who deserves to be locked up.
