PROSPECT, Maine — The owners of Freshwater Stone and Brick Work, a business that quarries and cuts decorative stone, reported a burglary Monday morning that netted the thieves at least $2,000 worth of material.

Jeff Trafton, chief deputy of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department, said the burglary was reported at 6:21 a.m. A lock on a gate leading to the quarry, which is off Spout Hill Road, had been cut, giving access to the yard, he said.

A railroad car on-site used for storage had been broken into, with a heavy lock cut there as well.

Among the items stolen, Trafton said, were batteries used in large vehicles, various tools, welding leads, welding extension cords, a cord from a generator and 15 specialized drill bits used for drilling granite, each valued at about $60. One bit stolen is valued at $560, Trafton said.

Deputy Jordan Tozier and Deputy Jason Bosco are investigating, he said.

  1. well,, it’s about time to hook up a 220 line to the gate i guess, lets see them bolt cutters work on that.

    1. Maybe someone should camp out and shoot them. Calling 911 and reporting to the police is useless, at least the insurance paperwork was completed. Maye the thieves will sue the company they stole from.

  2. We bought razor wire to put around our office in Bangor that continues to get broken into. We have lost tens of thousands of copper wire. We have a lot of new cameras too. Never can catch the guys.

    1. camp out and shoot them. Useless pieces of crap are a waste of oxygen. They do not deserve jail, that just costs us money.
