BANGOR, Maine — A string of thefts from four Bangor Mall stores led to one woman being arrested for theft and another receiving a summons, according to police.

Shirley Aarick, 35, of Bangor was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor theft, while Christina Lancaster, 34, of Brewer was summoned for theft on Saturday, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.

The trouble started when security at Sears noticed Aarick choosing shirts and concealing them, while Lancaster was taking shirts and giving them to her accomplice, according to Edwards.

When the women were searched, shopping bags from Macy’s, Claire’s and Victoria’s Secret with other unpaid items in them were found on Aarick. Edwards said that when Lancaster was searched, she had no stolen items in her possession.

“[Lancaster] was charged because she was picking up shirts [at Sears] and giving them to Aarick,” the sergeant said.

The sergeant said $68 worth of merchandise from Sears was recovered, along with $108 from Claire’s, $185 from Macy’s and $80 from Victoria’s Secret.

Aarick was taken to Penobscot County Jail and later released on bail, while Lancaster was summoned and not arrested, Edwards said.

  1. Why would one person be arrested, and the other only be summonsed? I see that the charges are slightly different, is that it?

      1.  I was also thinking that maybe the one arrested was the one in ‘charge’, and the other was just her ‘helper’. That may change things. Who knows though.

  2. Did the rent-a-cop fools chase these criminals down on their segways? Nothing funnier then seeing those guys on the segways with their helmets on!
