FRENCHVILLE AND ST. FRANCIS – Camille Gendreau, 89, went to heaven July 31,2012 at a Frenchville health care facility. He was born July 13, 1923, in St. Francis, the son of Antoine and Edith (Boucher) Gendreau.
Camille served in the South Pacific during World War II in the U.S. Navy, awarded with three Bronze Stars and a Victory Ribbon. He was a member of Disable American Veterans, American Legion Jandreau-Connors Post No. 180, St. Francis, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lozier O’Grady Post No. 0133, Fort Kent. Camille enjoyed fishing and bowling, and he had a talent for woodworking, having built doll houses and some of the first cedar strip canoes in St. Francis.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Ann (Osborn) Gendreau of St. Francis; four children, Roy Gendreau of St. Francis, Peter Gendreau of Saco, John and his wife, Nicky Gendreau, of Stratford, Conn., and Michelle and her husband, Conrad Landry, of Westport, Conn.; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Val and his wife, Winefred Jandreau, of St. Francis and Lucien and his wife, Ida Jandreau, of St. Francis; three sisters, Carmelene Dickerson of Fort Fairfield, Rolande and her husband, Clarence Lynch, of Fort Fairfield and Martha Michaud of Old Orchard Beach; several nieces, nephews and cousin. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Lionel and Rene Jandreau; two sisters, Claire and Anita; and one daughter-in-law, Nancy Gendreau. The family extends a special thank you to the loving, caring staff at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.
Friends may call 8:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Catholic Church, St. Francis. Committal services with full military honors will be held at the parish cemetery.
