BANGOR, Maine — An Abbot man who was found passed out behind Leadbetters Ministop on Hammond Street was arrested Thursday night for a bail violation.

Robert Dyer, 47, reportedly had two beers near him — one empty and one partially full — when Bangor police arrived to investigate, Bangor police Lt. Tom Reagan said Friday, citing an arrest report.

Dyer, who did not require medical attention, was charged with violating the conditions of a prior arrest that prohibited him from drinking, Reagan said. As of Friday evening Dyer remained at Penobscot County Jail, where he is being held pending a court appearance.

  1. If Maine would have a public intoxication law it would take care of alot of problems. To think that if there was not a thing such as “violation of conditions of release” the police could just lock people up for being visibly intoxicated. At least that is better then stipping our rights of the fourth amendment so they cant just search people, houses without warrants.

      1. NO they dont….we deal with the drunks and addicts all pilled out here in lubec and the both the S.O. and state police have told me that unless they have commited a crime they they can walk around stoned, drunk, pilled out all they want. I complained because they walk in the road and almost causes accidents. They told me that they first have to tell them to stop blocking the road. if they comply then they cant do anything. If they continue then they can lock em up for blocking the safe passage of the vehicle. But they have to actually block a vehicle (have a victim) and that victim would have to testify against him/her. Obviously not alot of people are thrilled to take time off work to testify assuming the court can actaully make it stick.

          1. ?? that makes not since. I am in favor of protecting our rights to search and seizure and the entire constitution. And you?? You probably think the “police state” should be able to anything as long as it protects YOU. Well, I am for protecting EVERYONE, even the criminal. My point if you took the time to read all my comments is that they arrested him for drinking…period. He is a grown man not causing a problem. That is why Maine needs to have a public intoxication law. If the police can show that he is visibly intoxicated and that he could be danger to himself then they could arrest on that fact, not violating the 4th amendment being thrown out the window just to arrest a drunk. Would you  want the police coming in your house without a warrant to search you, house, papers and personal items. If you do….go to Mexico

  2. Of all the convenience stores in Bangor,  he picked the one your not allowed to pass out behind….
