ACADIA NATIONAL PARK, Maine — Two incidents that occurred early Saturday morning at nearly the same time kept Acadia National Park rangers busy, one resulting in the arrest of a Vermont woman on a charge of domestic assault.
Supervisor Ranger Richard Rechholtz said Sunday that Southwest Harbor police assisted in the arrest of Rachel Beauregard, 24, of Burlington, Vt., who was handcuffed at the Seawall campground and taken to the Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth at about 2 a.m. By Sunday morning she had been released.
Rechholtz said the woman and her boyfriend, Justin Adams, 25, also of Burlington, Vt., arrived at the campground after midnight and began arguing over whether to sleep overnight in their vehicle to avoid waking other campers or to set up their tent. An investigation determined that Beauregard struck Adams with her fist.
That incident was followed by a single-vehicle rollover on Park Loop Road near Bubble Pond, which was reported at about 2:30 a.m. Rechholtz said that when he arrived at the scene the rented 2012 Chrysler Town & Country van was on its roof, blocking both lanes of traffic.
The driver of the van, Nicele Baldwin, 28, of Newark, Del., was not injured, but the passenger in the front seat complained of back pain and was taken by ambulance for examination. Rechholtz said Sunday his investigation indicates speed was a factor, and Baldwin was issued a federal citation for operating a vehicle without due care. The vehicle was totaled after taking out two large coping stones.
Rechholtz said alcohol was not a factor in either incident.
“I’ve been here quite a few years, and Acadia National Park has been very, very busy this summer, the busiest I’ve seen it in terms of incidents we’ve had to respond to,” Rechholtz said Sunday. “That’s especially true for rescues and medical calls, which can tie up a dozen responders for hours at a time.
“Fortunately, we don’t do it alone,” he said. “We get tremendous support from the local fire and police departments and Mount Desert Island Search and Rescue Team. We appreciate their help as we could not do it alone.”

Acadia is one dangerous place…think they should fence it off! Deaths, falls, injury anfter injury.
It is not the place but the people that decide to visit and get wrapped up in themselves. I believe that Yosemite is a little more dangerous- they have several deaths there this year. Don’t blame it on the place–it is people who are on vacation and relax their guard and perhaps their moral inhibitions.

Sure….lets fence off all the dangerous places. I don’t think anyone should go to Grand Canyon either. Oh my….too dangerous. Accidents will happen my friend. Even in your own kitchen. This is a free country, now let us keep it free and let people go where they want to go. We don’t need to be fencing it off. It’s thinking like yours that scares me, especially when that kind of thinking gets into government.
