BROOKLIN – Celia Bridges Laughlin, 88, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at Island Nursing Home, Deer Isle. She was born May 4, 1924, in Brooklin, a daughter of David and Celestia (Seavey) Bridges.
Celia was a 1941 graduate of Brooklin High School. She married John Laughlin, April 22, 1950. He passed away in May 1976. Celia was a retired U.S. postmaster of Brooklin Post Office with 27 years of service, and she worked with her husband at Brooklin Pottery. Celia was the treasurer of Friend Memorial Library, Brooklin Alumni Association, Brooklin Keeping Society and Rural Cemetery Association. At Brooklin First Baptist Church, Celia served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and was involved with American Baptist Women. She enjoyed knitting and volunteering.
Survivors include her daughter, Geneva Laughlin Barker and husband, Danny, of Stoneham; and her grandchildren, Faith and Joel Barker. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John; infant son, Thomas Williams Laughlin; brother, Clarence Bridges; and sister, Florence Bridges Carter.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Brooklin First Baptist Church with the Rev. James Lufkin officiating. Interment will be afterward at Rural Cemetery, Sedgwick.
