LUBEC – Bertha M. (Moores) Lyons, 88, went home to be with the Lord Aug. 18, 2012. Bertha was born March 28, 1924, in Trescott, daughter of the late Burton and Ruby Pearl (Hatt) Moores.
She worked hard in her life, first with Booth Fisheries and then became a devoted homemaker. Bertha enjoyed being in the outdoors and had many gardens, but flowers were her passion. She had many hobbies including cooking, cleaning, making wreaths and knitting, but most importantly were those moments spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bertha loved the Lord and was a member of Ridge Baptist Church, Lubec.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Macky Lyons; three sons, Myron, Edward and Darrell Denbow; a stepdaughter, Gloria Duffy; two great-grandchildren, Felecia and Cody Farrell; two sisters, Geneva Huckins and Beatrice Copson; and five brothers, Bill, Freddie, Roy, Carroll and Allen Moores. Surviving are her brother, Robbie Moores and his wife, Myrtle; five daughters, Kathy Murray and her husband, Dickie, Bonnie Lyons and her companion, David Ross, Brenda Gross and her companion, Peter Haycock, Janet Blake and her husband, Robert, and Judy Lyons; one stepdaughter, Betty Wentworth and her husband, Wayne; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Ridge Baptist Church, Lubec. A celebration of Bertha’s life will begin 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be afterward at Green Acres Cemetery, Lubec. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.maysfuneralhome.com.
