KENDUSKEAG – Norman George Stetson, 80, died peacefully Aug. 17, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born July 31, 1932, in Bangor, the son of Kenneth P. Sr. and Pearl (Thompson) Stetson.
Norman graduated from Higgins Classical Institute as valedictorian in the class of 1951. He attended the University of Maine, Orono, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel as a navigator and flight engineer. During his military career he received many decorations including the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1969. In 1960 he married Anna Rosenberg and together they raised four daughters. In 1974, after receiving his degree from the University of New Hampshire, he retired from the military and moved to Maine, where he became a small business owner. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and there are many wonderful memories of times at the family camp on Second Lake Old Stream. More than anything he loved his family and he will be dearly missed.
He is survived by four daughters, Annemarie Swanson and husband, Michael, of Trenton, Katherine Stetson-Reed and husband, Dana, of Windham, Jennifer Sullivan and husband, Mark, of Glenburn and Norma-Jean Larrivee and husband, David, of Bedford, N.H.; a brother, Kenneth P. Stetson Jr. and his family of Jupiter, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Nicholas and Jessica Swanson, Asa and Gardner Reed, Brian Martinez, Nate, Roger and Rachel Larrivee; his dear companion, Patricia Good of Camp Hill, Pa.; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 43 years, Anna, in 2003.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. After the reception a graveside committal service with military honors will be held 3 p.m. at Kenduskeag Cemetery, Kenduskeag.
