PALMYRA, Maine — Drivers of two vehicles were uninjured after their vehicles collided in front of Walmart along Route 2 on Saturday afternoon.

Jasper Walsh, 31, of Bangor was traveling east along Main Street in Palmyra when Cassandra Dunphy, 35, of Detroit, who was traveling west, crossed into Walsh’s path while turning into Walmart, according to Somerset County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Jeremy Leal. Police received the call at 12:40 p.m.

“She turned into his path. She didn’t see him,” said Leal. “Luckily, nobody was hurt. Property damage only.

“He tried to evade her, and just wasn’t able to,” said Leal.

Walsh’s black 2010 Toyota Yaris sustained heavy front-end damage, while both right-side doors on Dunphy’s 2007 silver Toyota Camry were crushed inward. Airbags deployed on both vehicles. There were no other passengers in either car.

Leal said no charges will be filed.

“It’s just an accident,” he said.

Maine State Police Trooper Christopher Carr and the Newport Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Failure to use care when turning, or to wield to oncoming traffic.

  1. it is quite difficult to cross Route 2 leaving Walmart, of course they don’t care once they have your cash….should have been planned better.

    1. What a silly comment.  You are blaming Walmart?  How about blaming the person driving for not keeping her eyes open?

      1. I am not blaming Walmart…it is a difficult place to get across.  what I am inferring is that maybe better planning could have been done to make crossing the lanes easier.  Walmart is not one of my favorite places, but that is beside the point.

        1. Whenever I have to wait for a couple cars down Palmyra way, I whine about the traffic as well.  Then I go to a real city, realize what a real traffic jam is, and then get over myself.

But that is not what this story is about, it is about one vehicle failing to yield the right of way to another.  It is time that we stop calling things like this “accidents”.   An accident would be more like neither party was to blame, it just happened and both shared responsibility for the two cars crashing.  In this case, there is an obvious breaking of a driving law, or rule; Failure to yield.

The article above clearly states what time this occured, 12:40PM.  It wasn’t near sundown, where the sun in the driver’s eyes could cause an issue.  Cassandra may have been like so many other drivers today (impatient and think the road is hers) and didn’t want to wait for a clear path before crossing the lane with oncoming traffic.

It will go better for Jasper and his insurance premiums if Cassandra was charged with  something.  If I had substantial damage to my car, I would certainly push for that outcome.
