BANGOR, Maine — A local man is facing felony charges after an assault on a couple, according to police.
Bangor police Officer Richard Polk went to a Center Street residence around 8:15 p.m. and found a 64-year-old man bleeding from the head, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said in a statement. The man’s wife, 59, told police that a man had hit her with a beer bottle and fled into a nearby apartment building.
The woman told police she was talking on her cellphone outside her house in her vehicle when a suspect walked up and “punched the taillight out for no apparent reason,” according to Edwards.
Fearing for his wife’s safety, her husband ran out of the house with a hammer, and a second suspect grabbed the hammer from him while the first suspect struck the husband with a beer bottle, breaking it over his head, according to Edwards.
Both suspects fled the scene, but police eventually found one — Michael Owen, 32, of Bangor — in a Willow Street apartment building, Edwards said.
Police arrested Owen and charged him with aggravated assault, a Class B felony. He was booked at the Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Monday.
The male victim was treated at the scene by Bangor ambulance crews.

Random acts of violence. Welcome to Bangor.
Party Bangor dot com. Entertainment corridor as our city fathers like to put it.
seems only right that the 64 yr old man gets a few wacks in with the hammer and his wife gets to break a few bottle’s of her own before the arrest was made… c’mon bangor, lets see some gettin even take place..
Eye for an eye? Sure. Because that’s always the answer.
Did he ‘Owen’ up to the crime?
Mr. Owen will be a-goin’ to the slammer.
Your kidding right? He will not do any time. The system is broken.
Wow. What a winner. His friends and family should be so proud him. *rolls eyes*
drugs, desperate people, no money = stupid choices
The crimes that are committed in Bangor are unbelievable. If I lived there now I would never leave the house. It’s a shame what’s happened to a once very peaceful community.
Oh, Mike… you went from being a cook to being a crook… Sad.
Wow… Just wow. The ignorant part is he will be out by this weekend to go out and do something else to cost the state time and money.
I hope this character and his accomplice are locked up long enough to have time to reconsider their actions. What a couple of losers!
I would love for a loser like this to try that stunt on my wife and/or me…..
That sucker would be tagged and bagged.
I couldn’t agree with you more, I have no tolerence for someone beating on an old person, especially a woman, would have loved to have been driveing by and saw this, I’d be in jail and he’d be in a bag.
Bangor is a pretty rough town…like Lewiston. There are areas that you just have to avoid now on foot. Being a cop nowadays must be difficult with these idiots running around.
I blame this on the economy that LePage has created. (I’m just trying to reason like the righties on this message board).
Rustling cars on Harlow Street, bashing heads on Center, brandishing a Machete at the Folk Festival, incinerating 3 in Target Industrial Park.
There’s even more in the center pages of today’s BDN.
Meanwhile, the city council prepares to light up the waterfront so folk can stroll along a winding path and enjoy the cool, calm, fragrant, evening breezes.
What a laugh.
