HARMONY, Maine — A Connecticut man lost the fingers on his left hand during a rollover on Wellington Road on Saturday afternoon, according to Detective Lt. Carl E. Gottardi II of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

Glenn Bussell, 79, of Bristol, Conn., was driving south on Wellington Road at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday when his 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck veered off the road.

“The driver overcorrected, causing the truck to flip over two times in the roadway,” Gottardi said in a statement released late Monday morning. “While the truck was flipping over, the driver’s left arm was out of the truck, causing the arm to be crushed and the fingers on [the] arm to be lost.”

Bussell was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, and later moved to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

A spokesman at EMMC said Bussell was in fair condition at noon Monday.

“At this time, speed and alcohol may be factors in the incident,” said Gottardi. “Once the investigation is complete, the case will be reviewed by the district attorney’s office.”

Somerset County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Joseph Jackson responded and investigated the crash. Harmony Fire and Rescue and EMS Ambulance assisted at the scene.

  1. “Once the investigation is complete, the case will be reviewed by the Attorney General’s office.” In the mean time  this gentlemen “may” have been drunk and driving too fast. Why not actually complete the investigation and not speculate as  to the cause to 70,000 BDN customers.

    1. In this day of twitter, etc., people want instantaneous information. Unfortunately, this is what we get when people can’t wait for the next day’s edition (although this happened on Sat).

      1. “muffler bearings may have seized ” try that one BDN-that could cause an accident as well.

  2. “At this time, speed and alcohol may be factors in the accident,” said Gottardi. “Once the investigation is completed, the case will be reviewed by the district attorney’s office.”

That is the exact same paragraph as a the crash concerning the airborne truck, is this a mistake?

79 DUI, and speeding? Sounds off to me perhaps wrong article…
