UPTON, Maine — A local man is accused of attacking a couple, riding an ATV drunk and furnishing alcohol to his 19-year-old girlfriend.

Clayton T. Svendberg, 20, of 138 Back St., was arrested early Thursday on charges of domestic assault, criminal mischief, aggravated assault, operating an ATV under the influence and furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol.

According to a report by Deputy George Cayer of the Oxford County Sheriff”s Office, Cayer and Sgt. Matthew Baker responded to an assault call at an Upton residence late Wednesday night. When they arrived, they saw Svendberg cross the street on an ATV and head up a dirt road. Cayer pulled over Svendberg, whose girlfriend was also riding on the ATV.

Svendberg was taken to the ground and handcuffed, Cayer wrote, because the call indicated Svendberg had a baseball bat and a .22-caliber rifle.

A man and woman said Svendberg broke into their home through the basement and attacked them. The man’s head was bloodied. Cayer wrote that Svendberg was intoxicated, and that his girlfriend was as well. She said she had been drinking at Svendberg’s home.

Svendberg’s bail was set Friday at $1,000 cash. He is due to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on Nov. 6.

    1. Protection? lol. We could all use a little protection from “men” like him.  He can’t wait to knock her up, abandon her, and brag about what a man he is. That is what the liquor was for. She will go on the state and apply for everything going to help raise their child. He will seek “under the table” work so he does not have to pay child support. He just needs to earn enough to buy gas for his ATV, liquor, and cigarettes. Then he can go about the task of finding his next unsuspecting mother to be.

        1. In England, this term is used to mean visiting someone at home. I am going to pretend that is what was meant in this instance.

    1. Yeah, I thought so too. He is also a loser. Do you suppose they are related?

And before people ask this, yes, I am being facetious.

  1. I thought you could only be charged with “furnishing alcohol” if you were over 21, not another minor.  Oh well, have fun in the slammer!

    1. I have a friend who was convicted of “furnishing alcohol”, he was 15, and gave a beer to a 16 year old.  This was 25 years ago.

      1. Back then, if we were stupid enough to get caught with beer, the cops would have just taken the beer (for themselves no doubt) and told us to move along…  Ah, the good ole days when good judgement was used and you didn’t have everyone calling for a hang-man’s jury for the slightest offense.

In this particular case however, this guy is a cowardly a hole, and deserves a good arse kicking. I would’t let the gf off the hook too easily either as I’m sure she was up to no good as well.

  2. Too bad the homeowner didn’t meet the intruder with a 12 ga and save us all the cost of this dirtbag going into the criminal justice system.

  3. For a town with approx. 62 people, this is incredible to have this guy breaking into a home while drunk, attacking them, driving an ATV drunk with a drunken girl on the back. Where in he!! do you go to get away from this? A town with a population of 1, that being yourself?

  4. I’m not clear on something here.   The article reads, in part, “because the call indicated Svendberg had a baseball bat and a .22-caliber rifle.”  My question is, how is someone going to hide a baseball bat and .22 rifle under a white t-shirt on an 80 degree day?  Huh?  My next question is, wouldn’t it have been more “fun” for Cayer to take on a drunk guy wielding a bat than getting it over with so quickly?  I’d have loved to watch a drunk guy bring a bat to a pepper fight..  :)  Just sayin…

  5. BDN  “giving teen girlfriend alcohol”
Got to sell papers!   They’re less than a year apart in age.

I not defending this clown, but why is a 20 year held liable for giving alcohol to a 19 year old when the drinking age is 21?

    1.  If he’s the one that was in possession of the alcohol (legally or not), and he gave it to her, then he is liable.
