HOULTON – Gloria Christensen Swallow, 84, died Aug. 31, 2012, at a local health care facility. She was born April 17, 1928, in West Enfield, the daughter of James A. and Pearle (Sanborn) Christensen.
Gloria was raised in West Enfield and attended Howland High School. She was a member and past treasurer of First Baptist Church and co-founder of Houlton Youth Center. Gloria was co-owner and bookkeeper for Swallow’s Electric, Inc.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald “Pat” Swallow; her son, Douglas Swallow and his wife, Patricia, all of Houlton; two daughters, Susan Callnan and her husband, Timothy, of Brunswick and Jan Burns of Oakland; son-in-law, Lloyd Cutting; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Agnes Folsom. She was predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Lana Cutting; brother, James Christensen Jr.; and a special friend, Vilda Adams. The family expresses their sincere thanks to Madigan Estates for the loving care given to Gloria and her family during her illness.
Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of service noon Monday at First Baptist Church, Court Street, Houlton, with the Rev. Art Myers officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Gloria’s memory to Hospice of Aroostook – Houlton Division or First Baptist Church, Court Street, care of Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton, ME 04730.
