MILLINOCKET – Olive “Little Gram” LaPlante went to be with her Lord and Savior, Aug. 28, 2012. Olive was born July 21, 1922, in Medway, daughter of Merle and Clotel (Caswell) McLaughlin.
One of 17 children, Olive was a devoted and loving mother of five children. After graduating from Medway High School, she married Everard (Frenchie) LaPlante. Olive worked for 20-plus years at Millinocket Regional Hospital. Olive was an active volunteer for several church groups and in her spare time baked and knitted for patients at Katahdin Nursing Home. Little Gram enjoyed attending school sporting events and only her failing health kept her from supporting the local teams from the stands. She was a deeply religious individual and spent time helping others become closer to God.
Olive is survived by her four daughters, Jean Paquin and husband, Robert, of Millinocket, Patricia Belanger and husband, James, of East Millinocket, Carol McClure and husband, Russell, of Tucson, Ariz., and Nancy Carlstrom and husband, Robert “TI” of Millinocket; son, Gary LaPlante and wife, Linda, of Coconut Creek, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a special nephew, Keith Borrello and wife, Sandra; two sisters-in-law, Priscilla McLaughlin and Delores Nickless; and two brothers-in-law, Burns Elkins and Father Clarence LaPlante. Olive was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Everard LaPlante; five sisters and 11 brothers.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. A service of remembrance will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Millinocket Church of the Nazarene, 134 Forest Ave., Millinocket. Interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery.
