WARREN, Maine — Property owners here will be paying 5 percent more this year.
The Selectboard set the tax rate last week at $14.70 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. This is an increase of 5 percent from the $14 rate of last year.
A home assessed at $150,000 will see its tax bill increase by $105 from $2,100 to $2,205.
Seventy-seven cents of every dollar in property taxes in Union goes to Regional School Unit 40. The 2012-2013 RSU 40 budget requires the town to pay an additional $159,000.
The town will be raising nearly $4.3 million of which more than $3.2 million goes to RSU 40.
The cost of municipal services accounts for another 18 percent ($784,000) of the town’s property taxes. The remaining $271,000 being raised goes to Knox County for services that include sheriff patrols.
Payments by property owners are due to the town by Nov. 15.
Interest of 7 percent will be charged for late payments.
