BANGOR – Greta W. Thurston, 88, died Sept. 17, 2012, at her residence in Sunbury Village. She was born Nov. 10, 1923, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Perley and Lila (Bowser) Whittaker.
As a young girl she moved to Corinna and helped her father raise animals and vegetables on the family farm. She graduated from Corinna Union Academy. After marrying Stewart Thurston, they moved to Caribou, where Stewart taught school and raised their family there. Stewart and Greta always thought of Caribou as home. They moved to Sunbury Village in 2007 to be near their son, Mike.
Greta is survived by her son, Mike and wife, Heidi Thurston, of Old Town; her daughter, Patty and husband, Dr. Charlie Scagliotti, of Allentown, Pa.; five grandchildren, Katrina and husband, Steve Rainford, and Christopher Scagliotti, all of Allentown, Pa., Dr. Kristy Thurston and husband, David Prinstein, of Great Neck, Long Island, N.Y., Gregory and wife, Lauren Scagliotti, of Cockeysville, Md., and Michael Thurston Jr. of Portland; and three great-grandchildren, Boden and Elin Rainford and Evan Scagliotti. She was predeceased by her husband in 2009. The family thanks the staff at Sunbury Village and her caregivers, Sally and Holly for their excellent care.
There will be no visiting hours or public services. A graveside committal service will be held at the convenience of the family at Corinna Village Cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Those who wish may leave written condolences at www.CrosbyNeal.com.
