BANGOR, Maine – As Bangor municipal officials move forward with the city’s planned revitalization of the neighborhood bordered by Main, Third, Union and Buck streets, they are requesting resident volunteers and input.

Bangor residents are needed to serve on an ad hoc committee to work with the consultant and city staff members, the city said in a press release. The goal is to find homeowners, businesspeople, nonprofit representatives and residents who are interested in participating in creating the plan to revitalize the neighborhood. The group will meet three or four times and will also go on a daylong walking tour of the area in October.

The city also will hold full neighborhood meetings to keep all stakeholders informed throughout the process.

This new committee will be a working one and requires members who will have the time to commit to the process of meetings. Representatives from the revitalization project area are asked to contact Rosie Vanadestine, Bangor’s director of community and economic development, by email at rosie.vanadestine@bangormaine.gov or by calling 992-4241 to submit their name for consideration.

  1. Here’s my 2 cents:  Force the landlords to be more accountable for the way that they manage their property and fine those that don’t.

    1. plenty of apartment buildings for sale in bangor. why don’t you buy one and rent on the open market? you will be rich in no time and have plenty of money to fix it up again and again each time you have a vacancy.  buy a cold storage building while your at it so you can have a place to store all the garbage they leave in your apartment when they move out that by law the landlord has to put in storage.

      1. I get your point, but it’s no excuse for irresponsible ownership. There is such a thing as requiring references and collecting security deposits.  What you describe is the result of poor property management. Any half-wit can buy a rental property and run it into the ground. I’d like to see us do a better job of limiting the number of half-wits doing so.

  2. They already know what they want to do.. This article is just to say Hey we invited you..  The BDN building is going and a bunch of Buck and Linclon Street just to put a Walsh Hotel up. So some eminent domain will be used to do that and to change linclon street.. Next. They are firm believers in the aganda 21 issue and want to put up at least 1500 condo style apartments.  What this will do is force everyone to live downtown. The older well maintained apartment building will fall in disrepair do to the lack of income… Have to run more to come
