AUGUSTA, Maine — A Readfield man authorities say robbed the homes of Jehovah’s Witnesses when he knew they were at church events has been sentenced to six months in jail, thanks in part to the forgiveness of his victims.
Jarrod Bilodeau was sentenced Tuesday to four years in jail with all but six months suspended and three years of probation on six burglary charges. He was also ordered to pay more than $20,000 in restitution.
Authorities say he stole jewelry and other items from homes in Augusta, Farmingdale, Vassalboro, Wayne and Winthrop between Nov. 17 and Dec. 12. He was related to some victims.
The judge told the victims in court she would impose the light sentence only because they were there to support it.
The Kennebec Journal reported that Bilodeau apologized in court.

His victims forgave him, that was the only way he got the lighter sentence, if I was the judge I would have said “May God have mercy on your soul, you are sentenced to the maximum time allowed by law”
