AUGUSTA, Maine — An Augusta teenager has been sentenced to five years in prison for robbing a pair of city pharmacies of prescription painkillers earlier this year.
Nineteen-year-old Carmine Anthony Fazzi Jr. was sentenced Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court to eight years in prison, with five years to serve, and three years of probation. He was also ordered to pay $5,500 in restitution and ordered to stay away from all CVS and Rite Aid stores.
Police say Fazzi claimed to have a handgun when he robbed the CVS on Stone Street on Feb. 13 and the Rite Aid on North Belfast Avenue on Feb. 20.
Prescription painkillers were stolen from both locations.
The Kennebec Journal reported that Fazzi’s lawyer said his client wanted to accept responsibility.
That is a much longer sentence than convicted child molesters or batterers get. I am not saying it is not a serious crime that warrants serious time, but that child molesters and batterers get just a slap on the wrist in this state, if that.
