PRINCETON – Charles L. Cousins, 86, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth. Charles was born June 27, 1926, in Cooper, son of the late Clarence and Etta (Flood) Cousins.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II. He was an avid hunter and fishermen, but his fondest memories were spending time with his family, he especially loved making memories with his grandchildren and sharing stories with family. Charles was a wonderful father and was extremely devoted to his wife, Rowena; as her caregiver, he had great concern for her well-being. Charles kept busy and truly enjoyed life; he took up woodworking and built many cherished items for his family after his retirement from Georgia Pacific. He worked for just under 40 years at GP in Baileyville. Charles was a member of Princeton Baptist Church for many years, where he served faithfully in many areas.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Rowena (Damon) Cousins, in 2010; son, Charles Cousins Jr., in 2010; two brothers, Hilton and Royce Cousins; and sister, Hilda Greenlaw. Surviving are his three children, Joan Carle and husband, Barry, of Enfield, Conn., Judy Knapp and husband, Fred, of Princeton, and Brenda Bilodeau and husband, Don, of Leeds; a daughter-in-law, Ann Cousins of Greensboro, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Scott and Nathan Carle, Karen Powers, Mandy and Nicole Cousins, Brian and Andrew Knapp, Wendy Bays, Lynn Blanche and Cherie Bilodeau; 11 great-grandchildren, Grace, Matthew, Jewel and Hope Carle, Valerie Powers, Tyquain and Devandre Williams, Kaleb and Abigail Bays, and Carter and Emma Blanche; one great-great-grandson, Matthew James Carle; two sisters, Vernice Young of Bar Harbor and Thursa Sawyer of Charlotte; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, and noon-1 p.m. Friday at Princeton Baptist Church, Main Street, Princeton, where a celebration of Charles’ life will begin 1 p.m. Burial will be at Princeton Cemetery.
