BANGOR, Maine — A local man armed with a knife threatened a woman who lives nearby on Sunday morning after she went to see why he was making strange noises, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.

The victim told police, “he had chased her with a large knife and threatened to kill her,” the sergeant said. “He pulled this large knife and came at her.”

Baljinder Singh, 48, was charged with felony criminal threatening at about 8:25 a.m. Sunday, Edwards said.

“The knife was taken as evidence and he was charged,” the sergeant said.

Singh also was charged with felony threatening in February 2011 after he pulled out a knife at the Summer Street Clinic and refused to drop the weapon even though two officers had their guns pointed at him, Edwards said at the time of the incident.

“It was one of those touch-and-go situations,” he said.

Officer Rob Angelo, who is now a sergeant, defused last year’s situation when he sprayed Singh in the face with chemical pepper spray, and Singh dropped the knife. He was indicted by a Penobscot County grand jury in March 2011 on two counts of criminal threatening, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News.

Singh was taken to Penobscot County Jail on Sunday and could face a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000, if convicted of the felony criminal threatening charge. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
