LITTLETON and PORTLAND – Georgina Mae Jones, 74, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, Oct. 28, 2012, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough, with her sister, Shirley; and daughters, Tammie and Christina, at her side, due to complications of multiple sclerosis. She was born Sept. 11, 1938, in Houlton, daughter of Donville and Bessie (Hanning) Chase.
Georgina was a high honor student at Ricker Classical Institute, class of 1956. Upon graduation, she went into the offices of the Putman Brothers law firm as their private secretary. In the fall she decided to go to Zion Bible Institute in Rhode Island for a year. She was a great potato picker and harvester worker for years until multiple sclerosis took over her body. She was an avid Yankee fan, win or lose – still a fan. When she was in the hospital and her daughter, Tammie, told her the Yankees were going to the World Series, she said “Ah-ha.” But now she knows Tammie lied to her, she knows they didn’t go anywhere. She loved to read until a few years ago, but she loved her oldie-but-goodie shows on TV Land – she could relate to them rather than the shows of today. Her motto always was “waste not, want not” and her famous saying was “Well for the life of me.” Georgina was a loving daughter, sister and mostly mother to her two daughters. She loved her stuffed animals, especially her cats and bears, and her angel figurines.
Georgina is survived by her daughter, Tammie Fisk and Todd Oplinus; daughter, Christina Jones; grandson, Chance Fisk and Melissa, and new great-grandchild due in March; granddaughter, Jamie Choate and children, Bethaney and Aaron; sister, Shirley and Edward Foley, and family; sisters, Sherry Donhue and family, Dorothey Faulkner and family; brother, Frank and Melanie Austin, and family; and many cousins on both sides of the family. She was predeceased by her dad, Donville Chase, in 1972; and mom, Bessie Chase, in 2009. The family expresses their gratitude to the visiting nurses for the many years of wonderful care and to Maine Medical Center and Clinic for all they did for her the many times she was there, and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for the end of life care they provided for Gena. Everyone was so kind and thoughtful. Also to South Portland Fire & Rescue and Northeast for the many trips to the hospital with her and to Dunn Funeral Home for all they did to make her journey home as peaceful as possible. Also the family thanks her good friend, Marion Russell through the years of writing and keeping in touch with Gena.
