ROCKLAND, Maine — The manager of a Dunkin’ Donuts shop was taken to the hospital after a customer struck the building with a car.

Peter Fletcher was sitting inside the restaurant Saturday morning shortly before 10 a.m. when the driver of a 2006 Pontiac was attempting to park in a parking space and struck the building. Fletcher was knocked from his chair to the floor.

He was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport and released after being checked for injuries.

The vehicle was driven by Melissa M. Philibert, 45, of Owls Head, according to Rockland police. She told police she pressed the accelerator instead of the brake and drove into the exterior wall.

She was not injured, nor was her 20-year-old passenger.

There was no estimate on damage to the building or vehicle.

  1. She should lose her right to drive for a long time. I’m not sure how you mistakenly press the gas instead of the brake if you are paying attention.

      1. Yes she should! If she doesn’t know the difference between the gas pedal and brake pedal,it’s only a matter of time before she kills someone.

        1. At the age of 45 she has most likely has been driving for at least 25 years so it is safe to say she knows the difference. If she does not have a history of  mixing up the brake and gas pedals there is zero reason to revoke her D/L over this incident.

  2. ahhh the older drivers cause all the problems meaning over 65 maybe we should be concerned with everyone over 40
