TREMONT, Maine — A former standout basketball player for Mount Desert Island High School is facing a criminal charge after being accused of illegally selling drugs, according to police.
Melissa Beth Gott, 30, of Tremont was arrested Nov. 9 by Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officers on a charge of trafficking in the prescription drug oxycodone, MDEA Division Commander Darrell Crandall indicated Saturday in response to an email inquiry from the Bangor Daily News.
Crandall indicated that Gott was arrested Nov. 9 at her place of work in Southwest Harbor, which he declined to identify, after she allegedly sold an unspecified “retail quantity” of oxycodone to MDEA agents working undercover. The alleged transaction took place in Ellsworth prior to Nov. 9, he indicated. He declined to release further details about the incident.
He said no other arrests are anticipated as part of the investigation into Gott.
Gott was taken to Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth and later released on $500 cash bail, Crandall said. She is scheduled to appear in Hancock County Superior Court on Dec. 21.
In 2001, Gott became a 1,000-point scorer for her high school career and led the MDI Trojans to a Class B state championship. She also was named that year by the Bangor Daily News as the eastern Maine basketball tournament MVP for Class B.

What a damn shame, really.
No one is immune. But for the Grace of God go I.
I’m iummune. I have zero desire to get arrested and go to jail, ever. That makes me pretty damn immune and I don’t need the grace of any god to stay out of jail.
Right on!
Yes , I am immune as well.
I was profiled and “vaccinated” a number of years ago.
I’m not going back.
I think they do a great job with what resources these 4 MDEA Agents have to cover all of Hancock and Washington Counties! It isn’t like there is a whole platoon of them!
It’s a slam dunk case.
Her being a high school basketball stand out means nothing, at all. Why the BDN even included it makes zero sense because it has nothing to do with the story.
MDI woman arrested on drug trafficking charge…..once again, all the wonderful hard work by MDEA, and this one is trafficking as well, and she is released on 500.00 bail……kind of makes MDEA feel like all their work is in vain…This judge should be ashamed of himself….this is why these scumbags continue doing this…..
They let her go so they can see where she runs to, who she calls, and see who else might be included.
Do you not understand the concept of Bail? She has been convicted of NOTHING. A charge by MDEA does not mean she is guilty of anything. I would refer you to the 8th Amendment to the Constitution which precludes the Government from Excessive Bail. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eighth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution.
They could have let her go on Personal Recognizance. She is not going to flee over this allegation.
This must be a very important case.
It has been kept under wraps for 10 days.
The sports star is probably singing like a bird.
Expect many more dealers to be arrested at high
levels of the operation.
This major sweep will clean up the area nicely, proving the
effectiveness of MDEA and all its resources.

She was out and home before the fingerprint ink dried.
