BANGOR, Maine — The city of Bangor’s holiday tree, a 30-foot balsam fir grown and donated by Sprague’s Nursery, was put up in West Market Square on Tuesday morning. The tree lighting will be on Saturday after the Festival of Lights parade that begins at 4:30 p.m.

The headline calls the the big green thing a Christmas tree. The story refers to a “holiday tree.” Which is it?
Call it a holiday tree…call it a Christmas tree…call it a Hannukah tree…call it anything you want – you won’t get any argument from me.
It’s a CHRISTMAS TREE!!! Don’t like it then don’t celebrate the birth of our Christ and keep your mouth shut. It’s our holiday.
LOL. I truly don’t believe there is any reference to Christmas trees in the Bible.
Truthfully, the decorating of Christmas trees predates Christianity by centuries, in multiple cultures. In fact, the entire reason we celebrate the birth of Christ at this time of year is because there was already such a widely celebrated holiday around the Winter Solstice.
So it’s not really “your holiday” at the exclusion of all non-Christians. But don’t worry, I’ll still happily wish you BOTH a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

I was brought up calling it a Christmas Tree and I’m not even religious. Doesn’t bother me and I don’t think it’s worth the effort of changing it’s name or creating an argument over
the liberals are constantly trying to change names and traditions that have been around for centuries. they’ll eventually change it to their bland, uncultured idea of how winter should be.

Seriously, the use of Christmas Trees for celebrations in late December predates Christianity by hundreds of years.
