EASTPORT – Linda Lou Mealey, 60, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at Calais Regional Hospital. Linda was born Oct. 22, 1952, in Eastport, daughter of the late Edward and Alice (St. Lawrence) Baxter.
After graduating from Shead High School in Eastport, she started her career as a payroll clerk for Pleasant Point Tribal Government where she worked for 29 years. Linda also lovingly took care of her mother who fought a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was a member of St. Croix Bowling Club and Stuart-Green Post No. 65 American Legion, Lubec. Linda loved Christmas time and listening to Elvis Presley songs, but her most cherished memories were those spent with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Tammy Lewey. Surviving are her husband of 18 years, Richard Mealey Sr.; three children, Stephanie Lewey of Pleasant Point, Daisy Lewey and her companion, Rufus MacArthur, of Calais, and Nathan Murphy of Princeton; two stepchildren, Tammy Minter and her husband, Andrew, of Yorktown, Va., and Richard Mealey Jr. of Eastport; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Cheryl Thompson and her husband, Paul, of Eastport, and Victoria Collins and her husband, Thomas, of Eastport; one brother, Darrell St. Lawrence Sr. and his wife, Carol, of Hudson; two brothers-in-law, John Mealey and his wife, Theresa, and Gregory Mealey, all of Eastport; one sister-in-law, Jane Suddy and her husband, Buck, of Eastport; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Bob and Rena Stackhouse of Calais; and her special canine companion, Twinkle.
A time for sharing stories and celebrating Linda’s life will be held noon-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, as well as Sunday, Dec. 9, at her home, 4 Orange St., Eastport. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.maysfuneralhome.com.
