OAKLAND, Maine — Numerous Christmas gifts were stolen from an elderly couple’s home in an early-morning home invasion Thursday, and a neighbor is in custody, according to police.
Oakland police Capt. Rick Stubbert said Friday that Jason Horne, 25, forced his way into the Summer Street home and “stole about 15 or 16 Christmas gifts” while the couple was sleeping.
Some of the gifts were wrapped and others weren’t wrapped, according to Stubbert. While he wouldn’t specify exactly what they were, he said they were for the couple’s family members.
Because of community outreach, police were able to find their suspect on Friday afternoon, and Horne was taken into custody at his Summer Street home, according to a posting on the department’s Facebook page.
Prescription medication was taken from the home as well, Stubbert said.
Horne was charged with burglary and brought to the Kennebec County jail, where he remained Friday afternoon.
The couple received much support from community members, including cash donations, according to the Facebook post.

Grinch is puting it a little too lightly. Total scumbags seems a little more appropriate
Pretty sad when some low-life robs an old couple ,hopefully someone can help replace the items stolen. Grinch? not the words I would use to describe the crook
That’s it. I’m on my way to Oakland and I’m bringing hell with me, you hear, hell’s coming with me.
when we leaven? i’m ready, can we stop off in bangor on the way?
Lets meet at van Raymond.
Must have been someone that was familiar with the couple, and knew they had presents already purchased. That, and stealing prescriptions shows what lowlifes they are. Hope they are caught and dealt with serverely.
I would like to be locked in a room with them for about 15 minutes, it would be a pleasure on my part and something they would never forget the rest of there lives!
It is scary when your sleeping and somebody comes into your home and robs you I don’t know what this world is coming to.
They caught the guy.
