WINN – David R. Twist, 71, passed from this life Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at a Lincoln hospital from complications of a recent illness. David was born April 27, 1941, in Lincoln, to Roland and Viola (Carnes) Twist. He grew up in Winn and attended school there and in Lee with the class of 1960. He worked for 40 years for the Maine Department of Transportation retiring in 2005. His bulldozer and equipment were a passion. He was a good ambitious worker who took great pride in his work. He was a member of Pine Tree Lodge No. 0172, Mattawamkeag. He enjoyed fellowship with his brothers. He loved his big family and was a devoted husband, father and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Mary (Pelkey) Twist; sons, David Twist Jr. and Donna of Gardiner and Terry Twist and Stacey of Medway; daughters, Donna Bishop and Ralph of Winn and Delcie Rideout and Jamie of Winn; stepdaughters, Tammy Kimball of Lincoln, Traci Gauthier and Robert of Lincoln and Teresa Whitney of Bangor; grandchildren, Joel and Jacie Twist, Adam and Eric Bishop, David, Craig, Brittani and Tiffani Rideout, Vannesa and Tom “T J” Knights, Anthony Bartholomew, Britney and Ashley Gray; brothers, Danny Twist of Mattawamkeag, Delbert and Christine Twist of Winn; sister, Sally Twist of Mattawamkeag; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. David was predeceased by his parents; sister, Marion Bishop; and granddaughter, Brooke Jean Rideout.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Dec. 15 at South Winn Cemetery with Pastor Steve Brown presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory may be made to Penobscot Valley Hospital Annual Fund to benefit the Palliative Care Room.
