ROCHESTER, N.H. — A man in a wheelchair was struck by a vehicle Friday while crossing Rochester Hill Road near Frisbie Memorial Hospital.
Police say that around 1:36 p.m. Friday, 86-year-old John E. Pinkney of Mirror Lake was operating a motor vehicle and failed to yield to a pedestrian while taking a right turn onto Rochester Hill Road after exiting the Frisbie Memorial Hospital parking lot.
Roger Cailloutte, 81, of Rochester was in his motorized wheelchair in the crosswalk attempting to cross Rochester Hill Road, when he was struck by the Chrysler 300 Pinkney was driving, police said.
Paramedics transported Cailloutte to Frisbie for evaluation. Police said Cailloutte suffered injuries that were not life threatening.
Pinkney was issued a summons for allegedly failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
The Chrysler 300 sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.
Rochester Hill Road remained open to traffic as police investigated the scene.
The Police Department is reminding drivers that when a pedestrian is in a crosswalk and there is no pedestrian signal that they must stop or yield the right of way per state law RSA 265:35.
The Police Department is also thanking the people who witnessed Friday’s collision and stopped to give their account of what occurred.
