HOLDEN, Maine — A Perry woman is facing drug and drug paraphernalia charges after a Holden police officer reportedly found contraband in the car she was driving.
Bernadette Sockabasin, 25, came to the attention of Holden police Officer Christopher Greeley about 8:30 p.m. Sunday when he saw a car driving toward Brewer on U.S. Route 1A with a defective headlight and pulled the driver over, Holden police Sgt. Eugene Frazell said Wednesday.
When he approached the driver, Greeley detected the aroma of burned marijuana, which gave him probable cause to search Sockabasin’s car, Frazell said. During that search, Greeley said he turned up two unlabeled bottles containing prescription pills, including the painkiller Vicodin and folic acid. State law requires that prescription drugs be stored in properly labeled containers and remain in the possession of the person to whom the drugs are prescribed.
Marijuana and drug paraphernalia also were found, Frazell said.
Though not arrested, Sockabasin was charged with possession of two kinds of scheduled drugs, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Frazell said. She is scheduled to appear in court next month.
